About me

Zoe Falomir graduated in Computer Science Engineering at Universitat Jaume I, Castellón, Spain, in 2004. She became Dr. by Universitat Jaume I and Dr.-Ing. by Universität Bremen (Germany) in 2011. From 2010 to 2011, she was a research engineer in Cognitive Robots SL where she applied some results of her thesis to the automation of scrubber machines. She has been working in collaboration with the Spatial Cognition Research Centre at Universität Bremen since 2008, with the Departments of Applied Economics and Languages and Computer Systems at Universidad de Sevilla (Spain) since 2009, and with the BioInfoGenomics research group at Combiomed Network (Spain) since 2005. She is also a board member at the Catalan Association for Artificial Intelligence (ACIA) since 2010. 

Nowadays, Dr.-Ing. Falomir has a postdoc position at the Spatial Cognition Research Centre at Universität Bremen, where she carries out a project on Cognitive Scene Descriptions as the main researcher.

  • At Universitat Jaume I, Spring 2014: Erasmus teaching week, seminar on "Cognitive Description of Scenes".
  • At Universitat Jaume I: Dr.-Ing. Falomir got official teaching certificates and also teaching experience recognized with greetings by the Rector. Besides, she was awarded two innovative teaching projects whose results were published in international conferences in education. She has also directed several master projects and training stays in enterprises:
    • 2007/2008, II31- Computer Science Systems for Engineering Degree in Computer Science at Universitat Jaume I, Castellón, Spain. Supervisor of 2 Master projects in Computer Science Engineering: one of them got €1500 funding from the Spanish Ministry of Education and Science to pay for the students' work.
    • 2008/2009, I80-Advanced Artificial Intelligence (AAI) for Engineering Degree in Computer Science at Universitat Jaume I, Castellón, Spain. Teacher responsible for the subject which was awarded two innovative teaching projects: (i) Learning by developing small projects evaluating classmates in AAI and (ii) Improving the English competences of the students in the subject AAI.

  • In Spain: Dr.-Ing. Falomir's professional activity has been carried out in qualitative modeling and robotics in both academic and industrial sectors. She enjoys learning new techniques and meeting challenges. She also has contributed to research on medical informatics carried out at U. Jaume I.

    • July 2008, Dr. Falomir moved to Cognitive Systems (CoSy) Research Group at the Spatial Cognition Research Centre at Universität Bremen, Germany, where she stayed for 6 months, developing A Model for Qualitative Description of Digital Images supervised by Prof. Christian Freksa. This research stay was funded by a Valencian Goverment doctoral mobility grant.
    • June 2009, Dr. Falomir moved to INDIFOR Research Group, at Andalucía Super Computer Centre at Universidad de Sevilla, Seville, Spain, where she stayed for 3 months, developing A Similarity Measure between Qualitative Descriptions of Digital Images. Supervisors: Dr. Juan Antonio Ortega (Languages and Computer Science Department) and Dr. Luís González Abril (Applied Economics Department). This research stay was funded by a Valencian Goverment doctoral mobility grant. 
  • Publications: As research results, Dr. Falomir has published: 1 book, 9 journal articles all in Journal Citation Reports (JCR) in Social Sciences Citation Index (SSCI) and Science Citation Index (SCI), 7 book chapters, and more than 25 articles in national and international conferences. Five additional journal articles in JCR are currently under revision. Besides, the following JCR journals have asked Dr. Falomir to revise papers in Special Issues: International Journal of Uncertainty, Fuzziness and Knowledge-based Systems, Journal of Universal Computer Science, and IEEE Transactions on Education. One of the Dr. Falomir’s premises in science research is not enough to publish, but to look for the quality of the publication. Morevoer, she has also contributed to research dissemination in society by publishing 3 science articles in magazines for general audiences and she has also shared her innovative teaching techniques by publishing 4 educational articles in conferences.
