Profession

About me

I am a researcher at Bremen Spatial Cognition Center (BSCC) as a part of Cognition Systems (CoSy) research group at University of Bremen. I am carrying multidisciplinary research under the fields of Geoscience and Information Systems. I joined the group as a Ph.D Student in April 2013. I was supported be a Scholarship from German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). Previously, I got M.Sc. degree of Information Systems from Faculty of Computer and Information (FCI), Cairo University in 2010. Moreover, I have graduated from Faculty of Computer and Information (FCI), Assiut University in 2005. From 2005-2012, I was employed at Assiut University as researcher and teaching assistant in Information Systems department. In particular,  I am highly interested in Geographical Information System (GIS). I worked as co-founder of GIS lab at Assiut University. I defended my PhD in September 2016 at University of Bremen. My PhD was tackling the quality of Volunteered Geographical Information (VGI). VGI is as a new crowdsourcing paradigm of geographical data collection. It is a rich source of spatial data and information, but unfortunately with problematic quality. In my research, I developed an approach to enhance data classification by applying machine learning algorithms.

Currently, I am working in project of "Human-Centered Relational Feature Classification for VGI". The project is funded by German Research Foundation (DFG). The project tackel the quality of data classification in VGI mapping project. In such collaborative project, data classification is mostly subjective and follow the human-centric model. However, applying spatial cognition aspects and geographic context investigation can be utilized to enhance data classification and ensure the resulting data quality. Moreover, I am part of CapacityLab project, which harnesses Information and Communication Technology (ICT) to support the developing countries. Most of ICT4D applications are built up on Crowdsourcing and VGI concepts.
